"Always Thinking of Others" … Tireless in his Efforts! Modest, Humble and Selfless to a fault! These are but a few descriptives of One Of Our Own ~ Eli! With years of experience at the GPO (Government Printing Office) under his belt, in the Printing Field, he adds to that with his growing Computer Skills, and supplements this with his weekend shift at Kinko's. The word "Tireless", hardly seems adequate! Rounding out his portfolio with years of experience in Security at such prestigious digs as The World Bank and USN&WR Magazine, A Martial Arts Practitioner and Affectionado, and active member of his Church. With his lovely wife, Gail, who has also long been a cherished part of the ICUG Family Circle, you'll find them to be a Dynamic Team!

You'll most often find Eli, going out of his way to help Others! He has been known to not only, somehow magically show up with Training Materials that just happen to be exactly what a person is Studying at the time, be he also seems to have cosmic timing, in arriving with just the Software Support that is needed for a Project, to see it through to a successful completion! We know just how fortunate we are to count Eli among Our ICUG Family! "A Big Thanks to You, Eli, from All of Us … for All that You Do!"

"Pearl of the Orient", is how the Philippines has come to be known by much of the World. Much to the benefit of the ICUG Family, we are proud to have a Family Circle there, ready willing and able to help expand the ICUG Distance Education and Computer Training Program! An ICUG Member from the early years, Inday Fe brings her two Cousins, Jelyn and Annly, on-board to join ICUG. Although we had plans for all Three to visit the USA for Computer Training, last year, recent unexpected and changing World Events, have given rise to a rescheduling for the near future. In the mean time, we hope to keep the Positive Energies going strong with "Building Bridges via the Internet" to provide Distance Training and Education for many in The Phil.

With Inday Fe, acting as ICUG Coordinator, Jelyn's certification and experience in the field of Teaching, and Annly's ever-growing Computer Expertise, we are confident that our plans for an ICUG Philippine Program will be in good hands!

MWB Logo

Office Network Upgrade Project for MWB

Here's an example of "Where It All Comes Together" ~ The efforts of ICUG to provide Education, Skills and Training, can be considered a Noble and Worthwhile undertaking. Taking Training and Theory to the Next Level of "Hands On Experience In The Real World".

Cultivating Opportunities with Small Businesses, Community Organizations, Entrepreneurs and Individuals, can provide Mutual Benefits. Such Opportunities can provide Real World Experience for ICUG Associates and Trainees, as well as Freelance Income from Jobs and Contracts. The Benefit to the Customer will be Personalized Custom Service, Reliability, and most of all - Affordability. Since ICUG does not have the overhead costs and considerations that most commercial companies do, we can afford to provide Services at a lower cost.

In addition, ICUG can draw from the Resource Pool of   Talent, Skills and Experience of it's Members, Associates and Trainees to suggest Services to the Customer that he or she may not be aware are available. Offering freelance Jobs to ICUG Staff, for their consideration on a case by case basis, allows for the greatest flexibility anyone might desire.

Using the MWB Office Network Upgrade as an Example, we might consider offering the below Services to the customer, and then having the service taken by the ICUG Associate.

  • Network and  System Upgrade and Configuration - Willie, Michael & Leo
  • Building Custom Servers and Workstations - Tony / Leo
  • Digital Photography - Chuckie
  • Construct a Client Database with Client Blueprint Reference Jobs -
Database construction by Jessica / Client Data Input by Susie
  • Professional Digital Printing Consulting - Eli
  • IntraNet and InterNet Web Sites Design and Maintenance - Michael / Willie / Bil
  • Internet Security / Firewall Protection - Steve

This is just an Example of how ICUG Teamwork can Benefit both Associates and Customers. Add to this case, as in most others, the Opportunity for other interested Trainees and Associates to "Learn by Doing", as Team Participants. We encourage the "Watching Over My Shoulder" aspect, as an ongoing learning tool which provides an added opportunity, for those who have the self-motivation and interest to expand their learning further through Group Dynamics.

A Community Elder Visits

The Wisdom of Age and Experience

Never overlooking the Elders of Our Communities ~ The Wisdoms that they have acquired through Age, Experience, Trial and Error, is Invaluable!

We would like to provide Special Services to those  Community Elders and Neighbors, and reach out to them, and Bridge the other side of the Digital Divide.

So many times they are overlooked, and left behind with the advances of Technology and Technological gizmos, from VCRs and DVDs to PCs and Email. So many of these Elder Statesman and woman, do not have a clue when it comes to Email and the Web, and even worse, have no one they feel comfortable asking. Well, we want them to know that we feel that they are an integral part of Our Village, and that we value their Insights and Wisdom.
A Neighbor visits the Computer Lab

Senior Citizens - Neighborhood Elders - Community Unity

In our Brainstorm sessions, we have come up with ideas of Reaching Out to the Senior Sector, and offering Services that may prove beneficial in a number of ways, that they would otherwise have to seek out to find. By bringing the opportunity to them, to either visit, or learn in their homes, an added convenience is offered. Many, due to lack of mobility, health concerns, concerns for their personal security, or becoming set in their daily routines of being around the house, have become virtual "shut-ins". Many have not had the chance to experience sending or receiving Email from Friends. Many have not actually experienced "Surfing the Web", but in Today's Society, you'll find constant references to it, and almost every media source, making reference to it. This can leave our Elders and Senior Citizens, feeling more and more left behind by Today's Technology, and more and more isolated and alone. There are numerous Success Stories of Seniors, finally getting Email and Web Access, and finding a new Breath of Life and Excitement! The simple ability to Communicate with Peers, Correspond with Family, Friends and Loved Ones, be in touch with Events like Reunions and Alumni Gatherings, and in general have access to the wealth of Information that the Web puts at their fingertips, can bring a new zest back into their lives! Much more, it allows the Sharing of their Pearls of Wisdoms, that Lifetimes of Experience and Life's Lessons, have brought. By "Connecting our Seniors" we actually Preserve much of Our History, and bring a wealth of Knowledge back to Our Community Fold. As it is said, that It Takes a Village To Raise A Child" ... so let us not overlook one of our most valued assets ... The Elders of Our Village!

Ideas for Senior Services include -

  • Basic Exposure to the PC or Mac Computer - Parts and Basic Skills *
  • Basic Exposure and Guidance to Word Processing, Graphics and Games (Solitaire & Hearts)
  • Basic Internet Skills - Email and The Web (learning to do Searches)
  • Graphics Programs, Printing and Scanning
  • Life Skills Online - learning how to Order Groceries, Pizza, DVDs, etc., over the Web
  • For those Seniors who either don't want the investment Cost or fuss or owning a Personal Computer, scheduled Visits by Staff with "Have Laptop Will Travel", can be arranged!

Some Customs Services that we may make available at a low cost -

  • Digital Imaging ~ Scanning & Retouching Photographs - Family Albums, Ancestors, Children, Pets
  • Digital Photos put on CD or VCDs that can be played in most DVD Players on the Television
  • Offering Multiple Copies of Digital CDs, VCDs & DVDs and Shipping to Friends and Family
  • Digitizing LPs, 45s and 78s to CD - Music Preservation
  • For those without Computers - An Email Service - to Send and Receive Emails for them, setting up and maintaining an Email Account in their name, that Family and Friends can send messages to; also Printing out their Messages, delivering them, and Sending Replies for them. (in that way giving them the Tools of the 21st Century, without the need of owning a Computer) We become a virtual
"Senior Citizens Email Central" by providing these Services
  • With the vast Scope of Computer Software Programs available, many more areas may develop as we go. Finding Software Programs tailored to the Needs, Interests and Tastes of our Seniors, should be quite a joy.

In doing this, we will be Reaching Out and Bridging The Other side of the Digital Divide as well as The Generation Gap! We will be providing a valued Service to a target audience of Our Community, that often goes overlooked. We can, afterall, reach those in our own communities,  in the way that commercial companies, are unable to do ~ as Neighbors and Friends.

CARE Consultants, LLC

CARE Consultants, LLC was established in May 2001, by Mr. RV Adams and four committed men who saw an urgent need to enhance the quality of life for youth-at-risk. CARE is dedicated and designed to educate and restore hope for youth-at-risk by guiding them towards their dreams, showing them how to be successful, and giving them other alternatives instead of street life, incarceration, or death. Over 30 percent of youth died as a result of violence and gang related crimes nationwide in the last ten years, and the numbers are growing. There is a problem! Our youth. We as adults, have somewhat failed our youth. There is a saying, "IT TAKES A WHOLE VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD". The bond between the four men developed six years ago through a working relationship with youth-at-risk. They saw the struggles that youth face daily, and the fact that they were not given some of the same basic opportunities to meet life challenges. They decided to combine their skills and expertise in hopes of assisting youth in obtaining some sense of direction and hope in their lives. They felt by conducting an empowerment workshop it would enhance their quality of life. Also, to instill in youth the importance of education and overcoming life's obstacles. CARE's team of facilitators come together with various skills in areas ranging from mentoring, cultural diversity, communication skills, substance abuse, treatment and prevention, education counseling, spiritual guidance, conflict resolution, crisis prevention, leadership training, and life skills.

Investing
In Our
Youth

2care1.jpg (17612 bytes)

MISSION

The mission of CARE is to empower and strengthen positive and productive values for youth and their family members. By doing this it collectively addresses the challenges that youth at risk face daily by promoting self-worth through prevention and education services. The overall goal of CARE is to provide youth-at-risk with an awareness of available resources that serve to enhance their quality of life, and guide them to a more productive and responsible adulthood for them and their communities.

PURPOSE

To restore a sense of hope and faith in our youth who have been written off as hopeless and un-teachable. To enlighten and help them understand that they have a chance in life and can succeed when they open their eyes and mind they too can reach their full potential. It must be instilled in them that they have choices in life and id the wrong choices are made there could be negative consequences.

Through the Rites of Passage process youth learn through empowerment instead of through fear. Rites of Passage teach teamwork, leadership, values, principles and responsibility. It is necessary for our youth to move forward into the future as mentally, emotionally, intellectively, physically and spiritually balanced.
